second, the Kurdish tribes oi surrounding districts.
Their strength is greatly exaggerated (probably
intentionally). British soldiers are not necessary
if Great Britain will equip our own men with the
means of defence, we have sufficient men but we
need at least 2 cannons and 10,000 rifles and 5
machine guns, with sufficient ammunition, (perhaps
Great Britain would restore to us the arms collected
from the Assyrians in Ramadan). Our men, thus
equipped, could be put under the leadership of
Malik Khoshaba and Agha petros. These valient
leaders have done magnificent service in the past.
They have knowledge of the country, of the people, and
the tactics of mountain warfare, with these officers
at the head of the army we can cope successfully with
the enemy and can guarantee and assure the maintainance
of order in the community.
3. A OBSTACLE IS T H E CONSTRUCTION OF THE KQ aD

Our people are being compelled to assist

in constructing this road, colonel Rickett, the head

of the British Military in Ramadan, in the autumn of
1918, said to a deputation of our people that Great
Britain would not allow the Assyrians to return to
their homes until this road was finished. This may
1 quite well lead to the ultimate extinction of our
nation.
Our women are forced to do the roughest kind
of work, stone-breaking and other things quite outside
women’s sphere or ability. Hundreds have actually died
in consequence.
