Ho.14117, Mr.Secretary Montagu suggests
for the consideration of Marl Curzon
of Kedleston, that the reply which
His Lordship had proposed to address
to the French Hotes enclosed in
your letters of the 2nd September,
6th October and 12th Hovember,
sfeairfcd be reconsidered and that the
French Government might be informed
that no obstacle will be placed in
the way of migration to the French
Sphere of such of the Assyrians as
may evince a desire in that direction.
He would suggest^however^that the
French Ambassador should first be
approached with a view to securing a
formal statement that the French
Government is prepared to assume
immediate financial responsibility
for those Assyrians who elect to
transfer themselves to the French
area.
At the same time Mr.Montagu would
be averse from opening the way to any
direct interference on the part of
the French Consul at Baghdad or other
French officials in Mesopotamia itself

otherwise than Sir P.Cox may deem
advisable.
With regard to the Armenians
it will be observed that Sir P.Cox is
definitely opposed to settling them

In addition, there are some inquiries received by British officials from Christian Assyrians.
