This item consists of copies of correspondence, consultations, and minutes cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. [Mumbai]. The item concerns the seizure of the kotia [kutiyya] Runchore Parsand by Lieutenant Gordon because there were three enslaved women on board. The circumstances of why the women were on board is discussed, and the item contains depositions from those involved in the case.
