Attitude of Bakhtiaris. Please see your telegram of 3rd instant, No. 382
(dy. No. S.-29833).
On oround that there is likelihood of Germans with assistance of Bakhtiaris
making attack Sir John Nixon is being pressed by Directors of Oil Company
through Secretary of State for India to send some troops to old (oil. ) neids
settlement. Il-Khani and Il-Begi according to our information are on the way
down to low country, where Shaikh of Muhammareh is going to meet them
primarily in order to dissuade them against interference in Lirawi tracts, ihere
is thus no local information pointing to probability of any sudden attack on oil
fields, while on the other hand there are no troops, thas can be spared by
Army Commander, who moreover thinks that sending troops, into 1 akhtiari
territory would probably prejudice your negotiations with Persian Government
and excite Br.hktiaris and give them an excuse for co-operating with Germans.
He agrees, in any case, that matter is one in regard to which it is important
to consult you.
Kindly state position at present moment both as regards Peisian Govern
nient and baklitiaris and telegraph your views urgently.

No. 20 ditto . « 20 „
3 The stretcher lifter has been devised by Lieutenant Colonel P. W.
O’Gorman, I.M.S., S. M. O., Bannu, who exhibited it and its working at Army
Headquarters, and it is considered that the advantages it exhibits m light
and rapidly adjustable means of transport are sufficiently marked to warrant
this trial.
This appliance may be modified to meet local requirements in Mesopota
mia, and such modifications as are considered essential after an extensive
trial should be dealt with in your report on this apparatus.
As the question of the further supply of stretcher lifters for field medical
units will depend largely on their utility iu Mesopotamia I would request
that an early ad interim report on the trial should he submitted to this oiface.
