Mesopotamia.— On evening of 2nd December H. M. S. “Butterfly” escorting General Headquarters
and 10 ships with wounded reached a point 5 miles upstream of Shaikh Sa’ad meeting only slight
opposition. At 1 p.m. on 2nd December, our aeroplane observed General Townshend's force marching
on Kut-al-Amarah and within 10 miles of that place. The nearest point at which enemy was seen
was at a point opposite Baghailah.
