As there is little chance of Money arriving here before towards end of the
month, and I have been compelled to release General Kemball to take command
of 28th Brigade, I have put in Hopwood to act temporarily for him. Bequest
that appointment of Sub-Chief General Staff with rank of Brigadier General,
be given to Hopwood. This appointment, as well as that of another G. S. O.
3 Operations must be given to enable the work to be done.
It is an absolute necessity for several reasons. There is an enormous mass
of work and Money will be new to it; and in addition to dealing with Karun
line and Bushire, we are operating on two lines.
Bequest that you telegraph confirmation of Hopwood’s appointment and
rank. I will find another G. S. O. 1 here for General Headquarters and
am putting in Elsmie, 56th Eifies, as Brigadier-General, General Staff to
Aylmer.
