• 270. If the exigencies of the service permit, men of good character who are con*
sidered efficient may be allowed during their first period of serviee one month’s leave,
exclusive of journeys to their homes, on full pay with subsistence allowance or the
equivalent cash value of their rations. When proceeding on leave they will be allowed
transport at the rate of one-third of a mule per man.
Subsequent leave, after every period of re-engagement, not exceeding two months
at their home on full pay as above, may be granted to n.c.os. and men at the discretion
of commanding officers.

271. The rates of pay for officers as recommended by the Commission are based
le assumption that officers will receive the following:—
Free rations.
Free fuel for warming purposes during the winter on the following scale, aspirans
and naibs, 40 lbs. per day, Sultans and yavars, 80 lbs. per day, sarhangs
and above, 120 lbs. per day.
Free military clothing or an allowance to cover cost of all military clothing and
necessaries.
Free saddlery.
Free arms.
Free servants on sanctioned scales.

Related matters of discussion include the following: appointment and nomination of administrative officers, mainly covering salary, travelling expenses, pay rate, channels to be paid, official visits and transports, and adjustments. Also discussed are the conditions of serving on the commissions, the organisation and recommendation of improvements on the commission.
The volume also covers the relationship between the Persian Government and the Anglo-Persian Military Commission and the possible service of British officers in the Persian Army.
