Anonymous gloss (تعليق, see f. 17v, line 12) on a commentary by Badr al-Dīn Abū ‘Abd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Shāfi‘ī al-Miṣrī al-Dimashqī (بدر الدين أبو عبد الله محمد بن محمد بن أحمد الشافعي المصري الدمشقي, b. 1423, d. 1490), known as Sibṭ al-Māridīnī (سبط المارديني), timekeeper (موقّت) of the al-Azhar Mosque at Cairo, on a treatise in 20 bābs (أبواب) on using the sine quadrant (الربع المجيب), by the latter's grandfather Jamāl al-Dīn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khalīl ibn Yūsuf al-Māridīnī (جمال الدين عبد الله بن خليل بن يوسف المارديني, d. 1406).

Spaces were left for three diagrams (ff. 31r-31v). Another copy of the text appears in the present volume (ff. 73r-94v).

The text is followed by a folio of notes (f. 40).

الحمد لله الذي جعل الأوقات أسبابًا لوجوب الصلاة كما جعل الصلاة عماد

الدين وخصر السماء الدنيا بزينة الكواكب وزينها للناظرين وجعل فيها بروجًا ومنازل

لتعلموا عدد السنين والحساب...

Ends (f. 39r, lines 19-22):

ونسئل الله...

الكريم أن يجعلنا خالصًا لوجهه الكريم وأن ينفعنا بما علمنا وأن يحشرنا في زمرة

خير الأنام والصلاة والسلام على سيدنا محمد وآله وصحبه وأزواجه

وذريته في المبدأ والختام والحمد الله رب العالمين
