811. 1. In order to speed up and systematize the supply of Ordnance Stores to
Formations in the Field, the following programme for the i-sue of stores demanded in
bulk has been prepared and is to be worked to in future at the Advanced Base : —

* N.B. Where stores are sent forward by mahella via Hinaidi they should leave
the latter place by rail on the following day 1
2. Wherever possible Units detailed indents are to be consolidated by Ordnance
Officers of formations into one bulk indent on the Advanced Base.
3. Stores demanded in detail will be loaded in trucks with those demanded in
bulk
4. Bulk indents need not of necessity be sent in every week. If Formation
Commanders so desire, they may instruct their Ordnance Officers to hold back one or
more week’s indents and submit them in consolidated form at longer intervals - but if
thi- is done the Ordnance cannot be responsible for the delay in supply which may
result therefrom.
5 On the other hand where sufficient urgency exists indents for sores or clothing
are to be submitted by wire instead of being held back for the next bulk indent.
Stores or clothing so demanded will be sent forward at once from Advanced Base
regardless of the weekly programme
6. Bulk indents rendered by Ordnance Officers are to include anything outstanding
on the previous bulk indent. .
Units, however, should not re-indent for the same stores except in the circumstances
described in paragraph (7) below. . i
7. On the first of each month all indents for Ordnance Stores which have been
outstanding for two months will be an omatically canc lied. If any of the stores
included in such indents are still required, units concerned are to re-demand from the
Ordnancenvicerxehetisiro"senptlensy marked “RE-DEMAND,” and will quote the
number and date of the original indent and the authority for the issue of the stores
requiKednotification of cancellation need be made by units as on the first of each
month all indents bearing the unit’s date up to and includingthe last day of the third
month previous will be considered cancelled. For example: on the 1st of August
indents bearing the unit’s date up to and including the 31st May will be closed and no
furtheri"gF&ev"lelenos clot—ding indents and to can-el demands for stores,
which SvIn to changed conditions, are no longer required, commanding officers are to
satisfy themselves that no stor are re-demanded unless it is clear that supp y •

NOTE —The above instructions apply only to Units who obtain their stores and
clothing through Ordnance Oilice s of Formations in the Field. I hey do not apply
Units who draw direct from an Ordnance Depot.

PosTAL.—Outward English mails dated London, the 30th May, are expected in
Bombay about the 10th instant.
It is proposed to hold an Old Cliftonian Dinner at the Maude Hotel on the 7th

giving school joining and leaving dates.

The volumes contain the General Routine Orders [until 25 September 1916 referred to as Force Routine Orders] by the Commander of Indian Expeditionary Force D between 28 December 1915 and 10 July 1918, along with annexures to these orders and lists issued with the orders. Topics covered include:

The papers are arranged in approximate chronological order from the front to the rear of the volume.

Physical characteristics

Foliation: this file consists of two physical volumes. The foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the first folio of volume one (ff 1-188) and terminates at the last folio of volume two (ff 189-378); these numbers are printed and are located in the top right corner of the recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. side of each folio.
