243. (i). Lieutenant S. Meldrum, General List, attached Inland Water Transport
was tried by General Court Martial, on the foliowing charge
4 . “When on active service, drunkenness ”
the finding of the Court was Guilty of the charge.”
The sentence of the Court was To be dismissed from His Majesty’s Service.”
the finding and sentence have been confirmed by the General Officer Commanding-.
in-Chief.
(ii) 2nd -Lieutenant N. Campbell, General List, attached Inland Water Transport,
was tried by General Court Martial, on the following charge
When on active service, drunkenness.”
The finding of the Court was "Guilty of the charge.”
The sentence of the Court was " To be cashiered.”
The finding and sentence have been confirmed by the General Officer Commanding-
in-Chief.
(iii) 2nd-Lieutenant Thomas Fletcher (G.S.), Inland Water Transport, Royal
Engineers, was tried by General Court Martial, on the following charges :—
1. " When on active service, conduct to the prejudice of good order and military
discipline.”
2. " Drunkenness.”
The finding of the Court was " Guilty of the charges.”
The sentence of the Court was " To be dismissed from His Majesty’s Service.”
The finding and sentence have been confirmed by the General Officer Commanding-
in-Chief.—A-1271.
244. List No. 10 of Appointments, Promotions, etc., has been issued to those
concerned.

245. Under the provisions of Army Council Instructions Nos. 1840 of 1916, and
288 of 1917. non-commissioned officers withdrawn from infantry units to serve as clerks
on the authorised War Establishment of Staff, Departmental and Administrative offices
in Mesopotamia, will be borne supernumary to the establishment of their original units,
thus leaving vacancies for substantive promotion in those units.
Regimental non-commissioned officers and men at present serving on the authorised
War Establishments of the formations above mentioned who may consequently receive
promotion in their original units, are borne supernumary without filling the vacancy in
the unit in the field, thus allowing another substantive promotion to be made to complete
establishment
