June"%zr7Attention is invited to Army Council Instructions Nos. 635.908 and 943, of
.797. The G.O.C.-in-C. has approved of a collection being made to start a fund
which is intended to utilise eventually to perpetuate in some suitable manner the
name of the late G.O.C.-in-C.
, .2. Although it is not probable that immediate effect can be given to this desire,
ye i is considered that the present is the proper time to invite subscriptions for such
a purpose. By this means officers, warrant officers, non-commissioned officers and men
who have had the honour of serving under his command in this country may have the
opportunity of contributing.
3 Subscriptions are limited to one day’s full emoluments, and the means by
which these can be paid will be found in the annexure to this order.
4. Any suggestions will be gratefully received as to the form the memorial should
take bearing in mind that it should, as far as possible, benefit both British and Indian
troops. Proposals will be put before Lady Maude for her consideration and selection.
5. The Hon. Treasurer of the Fund is Lt. F. P. Musgrave, G.H.Q., to whom all
communications are to be addressed.
798. Officers commanding units to which N.C.O.’s or men of the Calcutta Volunteer
Rifles or Rangoon Volunteer Rifles are attached, are to render a nominal roll of such
personnel to the D.A.G., 3rd Echelon, General Headquarters.
The nominal roll will show :— •

As full details as possible are to be furnished regarding postings or attachments of
such personnel to all other units subsequent to the date of disembarkation.

799. From 1st December, 1917. the rate of Exchange * Compensation due on all
salaries which carry this allowance will be Rs. 3-3-9 for every Rs. 100, subject-to a
maximum.of Rs. 71-15-2—A-1890.

800. In continuation of General Routine Order. No. 704, dated 31st October, 1917.
Questions (1) and (2) of the Annexure refer to Regular Soldiers only. As all
promotions and appointments in the Territorial Force at Home have been Acting
only since 1st February, 1915, a Territorial N.C.O. would proceed overseas as a Private.

801. Twenty British Indians found in Baghdad on our occupation were tried by
Military Court on the following charges -
1. Waging war against His Britannic Majesty.
2 Attempting to wage war against His Britannic Majesty.
3. Abetting in waging war against His Britannic Majesty.
They were found guilty of one or more of the charges, and eight were sentenced
to death seven to transportation for life, and five to transportation for seven years.
The sentences of death were carried out at Baghdad, on 23rd November, 1917
