Instructions Regarding Free Dental Treatment
The Government of India have sanctioned Free Dental Treatment as follows -
. (i). British Officers (including departmental officers with honorary rank and
civilians holding relative rank.)—Oficers who lose their teeth in action or i
performing military duty may have them replaced at the public expense. Dental
treatment, exclude the provision of artificial dentures, may be provided for other
Officers on Field Service if dental o ficers are available, but claims for ordinary
treatment by civil dentists are not chargeable to the State.
(ii) . British Warrant Officers, non-commissioned officers and men (including
Unattached List ranks and Warrant Officers of the Assistant Surgeon Branch of the
Indian Subordinate Medical Department, but excluding those who are seldom likely to
be called upon to proceed on Field Service, such as men in the Army Clothing Department,
Military Farms, Military Prisons, etc., and the non-departmental warrant officers
referred to in Army Regulations, India, Volume II., paragraph 376).—Free dental
treatment, including such dentures as are considered absolutely necessary for efficient
mastication while in India to render them fit for Field Service, and to maintain them
dentally fit while on Field Service.
(m). Civilians on Field Service ranking as warrant and non-commissioned
officers—Free dental treatment, including dentures, considered absolutely necessary to
maintain them fit while on Field Service.
(iv). Indian Ranks (including Indian Officers and Senior and sub-assistant
Surgeons)—Free dental treatment and dentures for all Indian Ranks on Field Service,
but dentures only when absolutely necessary. In the case of those not on Field Service,
dental treatment to fit them for Field Service as in the case of British Ranks.
British Regimental soldiers serving in India who are, apart from the question of
dental fitness, fit for garrison duty only, will continue to be afforded dental treatment
but limited to the extent already authorised, viz, cleaning, sealing, stopping and
extractions.
All applications for the provision of artificial dentures under this sanction will
be submitted to the A.D.M.S. of the Division or area for approval, and will be
supported by the certificates, estimates etc., specified below —
(a) A certificate that such loss of teeth has been incurred as to render the
soldier concerned unfit for Field Service, if an artifical denture be not supplied.
A certificate that the dental treatment recommended represents the
minimum necessary to fit the soldier for Field Service.
(c) . A certificate that the soldier is efficient in his military duties and that his
retention in the service is desirable.
(d) A statement showing the number of teeth lost and requiring replacement
As regards officers, a copy of Army Form B-103 (Casualty Form) should
accompany claims arising from wounds in action.

Physical characteristics

Foliation: this file consists of two physical volumes.
