n accordance with orders from the War Office, the Mesopotamian
placed under the Inland Water Transport Service of the Koval
1454. (1.) Ir
Marine has been ptaceo unaer cue miana water transport toervtce of the Royal
Engineers. Colonel Grey, RE, Deputy Director of Inland Water Transport
therefore, will assume control forthwith of the Service, including ail dockyards and
construction.
The Principal Marine Transport Officer, Commander Jones and Commander
Bingham, will hand over to Colonel Grey, and the former will return to India to report
to the Director of the Royal Indian Marine.
(2.) Other permanent and temporary officers of the Royal Indian Marine will
placed by the Viceroy under the orders of Colonel Grey,
(3.) In giving effect to the War Office orders the Army Commander wishes to
thank Commander Jones, and the Officers of the Royal Indian Marine associated with
him, for their services in controlling the Marine in the past, and to bear witness to the
very real difficulties which they have had to contend with in sustaining the Forces
engaged in Mesopotamia.
Intimation has been received from Army Headquarters, Simla, that the
grant of the temporary rank of Brigadier-General to Lieut.-Colonel d’A. C. Brownlow
Base Commandant, will be notified in the London Gazette of the 7th September 1916 ’
(C.GS. telegram No. 76650, dated 5th September, 1916.)

A certain number of vacancies for pilots in the Royal Flying Corps are available,
