3rd Indian Army Corps wires as follows, under No. I. G.-239-70, dated
12th August:—
Begins.
Turks now write asking us to send hospital ships to Magasis, a few miles
below Kut, to meet 22 officers, medicals included, and 305 of our sick, who,
they state, are expected from Baghdad.

Following is my reply, dated 12th, No. I. G.-3467 :—

As the matter has been referred to the British Government who will
probably veto the transaction, the Turks should be instructed to stop any such
movement of our sick from Baghdad.

The volume contains a chronological list of brief summaries of papers relating to the activities of the Indian Expeditionary Force D (also known as the Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force) between 1 and 15 August 1916. This is accompanied by appendices containing copies and extracts of these papers, which include letters, telegrams, and appreciations [reports] from the Directorate of Military Operations.

A summary of the contents of this volume can be found at folio 16. The volume mostly relates to:

  • Updates from the Tigris and Euphrates lines, southern Persia [Iran], and the Russo-Turkish front
  • Reinforcements for Force D, including personnel requirements, appointments of officers, and changes in the chief command

  • River craft: details of craft available, efforts to procure more, the re-erection of craft on arrival, the storage of drinking water on board river craft, and the overall administration of river transport
