The services of these men are urgently required in connection with the
foundation of an efficient service such as will meet both Military and Civil
requirements, and will help materially in the return to India of some of the
permanent Staff belonging to and urgently required by the Indian Govern
ment.
It is desired that these men, if obtainable, should arrive in Mesopotamia
on or as soon as possible after October 1st 1919.
Their contracts would commence from the date of arrival at Basrah.
The conditions of service are as shewn in the attached Contract Porm.
The following Cadre of the Civil Telegraph Department shows the men’s
prospects if permanently employed.

The following are the appointments offered :—
(1) Fifteen telegraphists on three year contracts, at Bs. 250 per month,
with prospects of permanent employment on expiry of Con
tract.
Conditions as shewn in attached Contract Form.
Qualifications : —
Age between 21 and 25.
IJnmarried.
Medically fit.
Morse sending and receiving at not less than 28 words per minute.
Qualified Wheatstone Operators.
Elementary Technical knowledge.
(2) Five telegraphists on three year contracts at Rs. 300 per month,
with prospects of permanent employment. Conditions and
qualifications same as under (1) but:—
Age between 25 and 30.
Must have practical experience of repeater working. Must have
passed British Post Office Departmental Technical Examination.
(8) Three Wheatstone Machanics on three year contracts, at Rs. 250
per month with prospect of permanent employment on expiry of
contract conditions as shewn in attached Contract Form.
Qualifications
Age between 25 and 30.
Unmarried.
Medically fit.
Thorough knovledge of Wheatstone, Creed and Cell Instruments.
As you are aware the Telegraph Department is at present under the
control of the Army in the same way as the Railways.
