I consider it a matter of great importance, on medical grounds, to make
every possible reduction in the number of troops on the Khanikin-Hamadan
roaci, : n addition to reasons given in my telegram X.-5067 (By. No. 4752)
which prompted me to advise the complete transfer of Norperforce to General
Mane s command. Experience has shown that troops stationed on or even
M'S C. G, S.
passing along this route during the warm monlhs of the year, run the greatest
risk of contracting a most, virulent form of malaria. The subject lias been closely
investigated by my medical advisers and in view of the extremely unhealthy
conditions in Norfh Persia. I have formed the opinion that the passage of troops
along the Khanikin-Hamadan road should cease and any detachments required
to garrison that section should be reduced to a minimum.
It would be possible to make these reductions if Norperforce were trans
ferred to the Caucasus command.
