Your 74939-S. R. I., February 4th (Diary No. 9521).
The 20,000 non-effectives for return to U. K., include the invalids referred
to. Ihe figure of 6,400 Indian details from India to Egvpfc durin 0 * February
consisted of drafts of 200 for each of the Infantry units selected for the post
war garrison. The total number now to go is approximately 1,600 as those
drafts were subsequently cancelled. The ships detailed for the conveyance of
these are required to convey stores to Salonika and Egvpt and in any case they
must be provided for the return from Suez to India of 20,000 Indian' troops
m February and March, videyom 74136 (Diary No. 4968) and 74i38 (Diary
No. 4991), dated January 18th. The programme for the evacuation of Mesopo
tamia has been provided for without those vessels being utilis< d.

tance of which is contained in 2005 (N. T. W r . S.). Following will be the com
position and strength of army of occupation under your command.
Total strength for the present British 29 000, Indians 60,000, comprising
two Indian divisions, two Indian Cavalry brigades, one mixed brigade, L. of G
troops. These totals will ultimately be reduced to 20,000 British and 41,000
Indian. ♦
Will forward to you shortly a revised copv of provisional distribution for
1919, 01-18-533, December 22nd, 1918, which is being issued.
