Your 74800, January 30th (Diary No. 8824).
It is presumed that Machine Gun Squadron Cadre required to he sent
home is under category A (for Foreign Service) and I select 16th Machine
Gun Squadron. This leaves only the 25th Machine Gun Squadron in this
Force as, in accordance with India 103063, December 27th, 15th Machine Gun
Squadron has been sent to India.
It should be noted that (wefe War Establishment 52, Mesopotamia) ov er
40 percent, personnel in Machine Gun Squadrons in Mesopotamia are Indian 8 -

Your telegram, January 21st, 5391 (Q.M.G.), Civil Commissioner is anxious
to retain Colonel Evans’ services if he takes over iigricultural department. He
suggests Colonel Evans’services should be lent for 12 months extendable to
3 years on the understanding that if he returned to India at the end of this
period his position and prospects would not be prejudicially affected in any way,
t Mesopotamia. bis salary to be wholly chargeablo to
MindecooK(r)t and this Government to
pay the usual contributions to pensionjto the Government of India. At present,
however. Colonel Evans does not wish to bind himself till he knows condition
of salary which Civil Commissionership is not yet empowered to offer.
