Received in War Section, 3rd February 1919. >
From—The Inspector-General of Communications, Basrah,

I have the honour to recommend Major F.E.W. Vermin'?, D.S.O., 31st Pun
jabis, be permitted to join the new Staff College course, if possible, for the senior
year only, as in the former case of officers who have been granted a. q. s. for
good Staff service in the field.
2. Major Venning has served in Mesopotamia on the staff of the L. of C,
from August 1916, first as S. A, A. & Q. M. G., Advanced Base, and then
as D. A. Q. M. G., at Headquarters L. of U., from February 191* to date. I
consider this officer a most desirable acquisition to the trained Staff of an army
and he only needs a year’s higher training at the Staff College to make him a
very valuable officer. He is a tirst cla^s active soldier, possesses tact and eneig\^,
with great power of work both in-doors and out, and his experience during
the last two years has been very wide.
3. I can confidently recommend for the sake of the army, apart from any
personal reward for his services, that his education be completed in this manner,
his practical knowledge of “ Q,” duties being a considerable asset.
