I am to add that the Secretary of Slate’s statement in Parliament on
October 12 fcbj 1916, did not include the sale of horses in India for which as
for tneir subsequent treatment the Government of India is solely responsible.

. ^ Indian Cavalry Regiments are maintained with swords from
existing stocks in Mesopotamia, the result will be two types of swords in the
possession of units, viz., Tulwar and straight swords. The objections to this
are obvious, but it is understood from your telegram of January 22 nd, No. 5653
that, at present, it is not intended to make any alterations.
Please confirm this.
