Enclosure nos. 2-4 to a despatch from the Secret Department, Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. , dated 28 September 1844. The enclosures are dated 3 August-4 September 1844.
The enclosures consist of copies of correspondence relating to: the closure of the British Coal Depot on Karrack [Kharg] and arrangements for the disposal of the remaining coal; and the intention of the Persian Government of ‘sending an expedition’ against Bahrein [Bahrain], which it ‘appears to have given up’.
The correspondents are the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. and HM Chargé d’Affaires, Tehran.
