Summary of events.
j he Yte< s i c ^ v a:n ^ wounded, for the week ending October 19th, was received from the Director
ot Medical Services, Force “D,” Baghdad.
W h ie b aid to Colonel Lawrence’s proposals for dnaling with the Arab question the Secretarv of State
asiced the Viceroy whether he and Wilson adhered to the opinion already expressed by Cox that
tne JNaqib ot Baghdad and his family constituted a suitable dynastic element which would carry
the necessary moral sanction in Mesopotamia.
M ith regard to the meeting arranged between himself and a representative of the North Persia Force at
1 Malleson report'd that he had waited a whole day there and as tbe representative
ia not turned up, had been compelled to leave again for Askabad, where the situation was
tense.
The General Officer Commanding, Force “ D,” was asked to economize atta for a month by partial
substitution of flour and rice, owing to wheat and railway difficulties and the fact of the
influenza epidemic having affected the mill hands.
It was intimated to tbe General Officer Commanding, Force “D,'’ that the question of post-war recruit- j
ment for railways was one for the Indian Government to decide.
The Secretary, "War Office, was informed that the General Officer Commanding, Force “ D’s ” view regarding
the necessity for cantonments for the peace garrison of M< sopotamia was concurred in.
Intelligence furnished by an officer of the Siberian Army regarding movements of German troops he
had seen at Poti and Tiflis was forwarded by the General Officer Commanding, Force “ D.”
Intelligence regarding the Georgian Government’s refusal to notify economic treaties with Germany
was received from the General Officer Commanding, Force “ D.”
The General Officer Commanding, Force “ D,” said he was agreeable to dropping tbe suggestion regard
ing the raising of a Cingalee M. T. Company.
