DIARY No. 93649.
Telegram P., No. X.-3951, dated 20th November 1918.

To—The D. M. I., London.
(Repeated Cairo, Simla, Salonika and Constantinople.)
Reference Salonika’s 13008^ November 17th (Diary No. 93556). Turkish
Government’s request to maintain 5 divisions outside 1914 frontier on plea
that they would starve if withdrawn within Rrontier is in my opinion an.
impudent bluff. Irrefutable evidence exists here that in first week of this
month Turks had over 850,000 lbs. of cereals collected in small triangle
Diadim-Karakillissa-Bayazid alone. Large numbers of oxen which could
be used for food are also in their possession. We also know that for months
they have been collecting supplies fr un every source and storing them near
the Erontier. Ration strength of the 5 divisions would not exceed 35,000 and
it is rediculous effrontery to pretend that these cannot subsist except by
remaining in Persia and Caucasus.
