Priority. Continuation my X.-3960 of date (Diary. No. 93550).
Reported by Thomson at noon to-day (20th November), that he received
reply irom Mmcel last night stating that owing to damage caused to railway
by ram the evacuation of his troops from Baladjari would not be completed
till8 a.m. on 24th November. A staff officer has been sent by Thomson
to-day to investigate alleged interruption, to enquire into train movements
since yesterday and to expedite programme of movements. Telegraphic
communication with Tiflis interrupted. Turks are reported to have cut the
hue. Ihis also being investigated.
Nuri has not replied yet.

lacking among Terek Cossacks, poorer classes of whom distrust their officer’s
war aims and support Bolshevic schemes for laud redistribution. While
majority of Terek Cossacks are anti-Bolshevic, a minority are actually fighting
in alliance with Bolshevics against majority, but if present weak Government
were displaced by a strong Government backed by British these pro-Bolshevics
would disappear.
(2) Osetins who are divided in sympathies would join Denikin if he
appears in Terek.
(3) Ingush will become pro-British on departure of Turks.
(4) Chechens will become passively friendly to us on withdrawal of
Turks.
(5) Armenians (Informant left Erivan July 20th) Nazarbekoff has lost
nerve and ability. Seelipo, best Armenian General keeps aloof from Politics.

In order to ease fresh meat situation here which is daily becoming more
acute, it will be necessary to take urgent action to provide another frozen
meat ship unless this force is likely to be reduced shortly.
