If the Siamese Government could be approached for the services of Loco
motive Drivers for Railways in Mesopotamia we should be glad.
As many English speaking drivers as the Siamese Government will place
at our disposal we are prepared to accept.
The terms of service will be as follows :—
(1) Pay.—From Rs. 135 to Rs. 240 per mensem in 8 grades with an
overtime of approximately 100 per cent. This is inc.usive of field

An extra allowance of pay granted to soldiers involved in special field service or to public servants on special duty.

(2) Rations. Field Service Clothing and accommodation.—Fxoo.
(3) Terms of engagement.—For period of war or failing agreement to
this one year or more from date of arrival at Basrah.
(4) In case of death due to field service between date of embarkation at
Bangkok and disembarkation on expiry of agreement, a gratuity
of six months’ pay for each year’s service to next-of-kin.
(5) Wound and injury gratuity from one to three months pay according
to nature of injury.
If the Siamese Government would consent to the men retaining a hen on
their permanent appointments it would probably stimulate volunteeiing.
