the previous year.
The proportion of the traffic carried by the Teheran and
Turkish routes was 85*73 and 14*27 per cent., respectively.
The mean rate per message between the United Kingdom and
Kurrachee via Teheran was 39 minutes only, and, but for the
very heavy traffic that passed at the end of the year, the results
would have been still more satisfactory. In the working of
the through line via Turkey, there has been great improvement.
The increase of speed in the average monthly rate of transmission
was maximum 2 hours 25 minutes, minimum 1 hour 58
minutes, and the mean rate of transmission was 2 hours 44
minutes. Accuracy of transmission over the section was 99*64
per cent., compared with 99*52 per cent, in the previous year.
Errors of a serious nature have fallen to the low figure of
one-eighth per cent., and the total inaccuracies discovered in the
examination of 795,335 words, transmitted between Kurrachee,
Bushire and Pao, was but one-third per cent. Thirty-five complaints
from the public of errors, delay and non-delivery were referred for
investigation. Only one case of error occurred on the lines of
this section. Thirty-six thousand two hundred and ninety-
seven messages were examined in the check branch during the
year, and the irregularities discovered were brought to the
notice of the officials in fault. This important work tends very
considerably to promote efficiency.
