cannot be recovered under the provisions of the Act, the Manager*
power to effect compromises with creditors has been virtual! ^
put a stop to and his hands tied until measures have been take^
to supply the necessary power. It is hoped that all the informal
tion necessary to send in the whole of the remaining number of
liquidation schemes will be available within another year.
The total sum claimed from the estates was Rs. 30,58,778 but
of this only claims to the amount of Its. 16,75,499 have been
admitted. Claims to the amount of Rs. 99,244 remained to be
adjudicated upon this year. Of these Rs. 77,967 have been decided
leaving Rs. 21,277 outstanding. (This amount has, however
since been reduced to Rs. 3,665). The claims decided were
reduced to^Rs. 26,292. The number of claims to be adjudicated
was 66 ; 56 were disposed of, leaving 10 outstanding. There were
6 appeals against decisions ; in 4 the decision was upheld, one order
was modified and the appeal in one case is still pending. The total
amount as yet actually paid to creditors has been Rs. 6,55 023
and debts to the amount of Rs. 8,57,870 have thereby been com
promised, so that experience shows that as a rule admitted debts
can be compounded, at a reduction of 23 per cent. The number
of civil suits in which the Manager was involved on behalf of
owners of estates was 4. Three were settled favourably and one
adversely. The gross receipts from the estates under manao-ement
amounted to Rs. 6,29,026, during the year under report and the
costs of management amounted to Rs. 63,180, a charge of about
10 per cent. As liquidation schemes go in and the incomes of the
estates can be estimated with tolerable accuracy, each estate will
be debited with a percentage on its gross receipts to cover costs •
meantime charges of management are estimated against the gross
produce of the year. s
Thar and
Pilrkar.
In the Thar and Pfirkar Division liquidation schemes for 10
es a es have been sanctioned. Three more were reported on, but
the schemes were returned for further inquiry; and in the remain
ing case no. scheme is necessary, as it has been discovered that
the owner is not entitled to the benefit of the Act. His estate
will, be returned to him as soon as the amount due to Government
on it has been recovered, probably within the current year. The
season was a very bad one, and hence only small sums have been
repaid by three estates; future prospects seem brighter. It is,
nlilhrj’ ^ hetller one of the estates is not in a hopeless
plight, and its abandonment is under consideration. The advances
rr® U fr0m Government were for casual clearances, &c., and no
