Local Funds receipts amounted to Rs. 62,129, inclusive of an
ino- balance of Rs. 1,649. Expenditure came to Rs. 58,545.
q p of the main items were Rs. 8,360 spent on tlie construction
of roads Rs. 2,270 on bridges, Rs. 11,191 on the maintenance
of existing roads, Rs. 4,097 on repairs to tanks and wells, and
Rs. 9,940 on other works.
The land revenue for collection was Rs. 9,36,874, as compared
with Rs. 9,33,568 in 1878-79. Realizations during the year
came to Rs. 9,25,119. Distraint was had resort to in 1,356
instances. Excise revenue came to Rs. 97,581, an increase of
Rs 7 998. Forest receipts rose from Rs. 8,347 to Rs. 12,354
and the expenditure of the department from Rs. 11,668 to
Rs 12,288. Rs. 1,46,103 were realized from sale of stamps as
compared with Rs. 1,43,776 in 1878-79. The license tax pro-
duced Rs. 37,643. The total Government revenue from all
sources amounted to Rs. 13,37,548, an equivalent to Re. 1-5-0
per head of the population of the district.
The number of births and deaths registered were 14,986 and
25,259 respectively. In 1878-79 these figures were 13,650 and
18,185. Dysentery and a very severe type of fever were pre
valent throughout the district and a few cases of cholera occurred ;
hut since September the public health has been normal. There
are three civil hospitals but no dispensaries. The number of patients
was almost identical with last year’s, in-patients 274 against
282, and out-patients 9,527 against 9,582. The leper hospital
had an average attendance of 61 patients. The number of primary
vaccinations fell from 23,022 to 22,911, and of re-vaccinations
from 4,535 to 3,289.
There are 25 superior grade and 86 primary schools open,
7 of the latter having been closed since the preceding year.
The attendance at the former was 3,602 compared with 3,522,
and at the latter 4,313 as compared with 4,652. The funds
available, inclusive of an opening balance of Rs. 2,348, were
Rs. 43,115, and expenditure amounted Rs. 40,005.

Annual administration report of the Bombay Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. , providing a summary record of the main events and developments in each department of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. during the financial year 1879-80. The report was printed at the Government Central Press, Bombay [Mumbai] in 1880.

The report is divided into three parts. Part I comprises a report ‘SUMMARY’ (ff 9-55). Part II (ff 56-265) comprises chapters I-IX. Part III comprises ‘Statistical Returns’ pertaining to chapters I-VII and IX (ff 266-429).
