4,264 and 13,097, compared with 6,168 and 7,455 in the previous

prevalence of a fatal type of fever from October to January.
Eleven thousand seven hundred and fifty-five deaths alone are
credited to fever. The poorer population long deficiently
nourished readily succumbed to its attacks. No other epidemic
occurred during the year. Twenty-six thousand seven hundred

and 110, respectively, in 1878-79, were treated at the four
dispensaries; whilst the civil hospital afforded relief to 1,180
in-patients and 6,953 out-patients, as against 852 and 5,582.
The number of primary vaccinations was 6,642 and of re-vacci
nations 129. The figures for the previous year were, respectively,
7,461 and 197. The falling off is attributed to prevalence of
sickness.
Including an opening balance of Rs. 20,400, Rs. 99,691 were
available for educational purposes. Disbursements amounted to
Rs. 64,351, and the year closed with a balance of Rs. 35,339.
The number of superior schools was 3 instead of 2 , owing to the
opening of a first grade Anglo-vernacular school at Anklesvar.
The attendance rose from 274 to 295. The number of primary
schools increased from 206 to 222 and attendance at them from
9,393 to 11,295. The number of girls* schools has not altered,
but the attendance is 94 greater.
