(Repeated Mesopotamia, Salonika, India, Mudros and Caucasus Military Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. .)
An indiyidual with well informed friends in Germany, who has recently
returned from Berlin and who is said to be reliable, reports that he waa told
in Berlin on good authority that new formation was being put together in that
district for service in Palestine. This formation w T as said to be in Berlin
Area on 9th December and likely to be sent to the East shortly. It consists
of young volunteers withdrawn from existing units and is about 3,000 strong.

In England we have a number of Russian officers who are anxious to serve.
If, as appears possible, loyal Russian troops may later on join Bieharakoff’s
forces, it would appear to be an advantage to have as many officers as possible.
After consultation with Bicharakoff inform me early if he could make use of
jabove officers and, if so, what numbers and of what arms.

Baghdad.
With the object of getting some suitable regimental officers to the
Caucasus as soon as possible will you please consider the possibility of sending
some from South Persian Rifles, Officers well suited for such employment
were sent out in last batch from England.
If you agree please issue instructions to Sykes to send up to eight really
good officers as soon as possible to report at Tiflis to British Military Repre
sentative :—
Outfit and subsistence allowance as in my above quoted telegram.
Names of officers selected to be furnished by wire.

of all officers of Indian lines now in military employ with a view to ensuring
