Summary of events.
The statement of discharges in tons per ship at Basrah on 27th December was received from the
Inspector General of Communications, Force “ D ”.
The daily report for December 29th showing no change in the situation was received from General
Officer Commanding, Force “ D.”
The General Officer Commanding, Force “ D,” forwarded a memorandum relating to the method of
employment of class “ B ” men to relieve class A ” and stated that as the method was working well,
he did not propose at present to form employment companies as suggested by War Office.
The Director of Railways, Baghdad, was asked when drawings and specifications for main storage tanks
and subsidiary tanks might be expected and it w 7 as suggested to him that metre gauge travelling oil
tanks at present used for drinking water be utilized for oil fuel and loose tanks for w 7 ater indented for
The General Officer Commanding, Force “ D,” intimated that reinforcement mules should be given
preference over carts for the 18th Diviskn.
The Deputy Director of Railways, F-rce “ D,” reported that it was understood travelling oil tanks were
’ being constructed by Indian metre gauge railways and asked for drawings and whether 25 could be

The Inspector General of Communications, Force “ D,” stated that routine sailings of Hospital Ships
should be everv dth instead of every 3rd day during January.
The General Officer Commanding, Force “ D,” reported that he was bringing back from Kirmanshah the
Enzac Wireless Detachment and that he proposed to occupy Kasr-i-Shirin wdth smali detachment.
The Director of Railways, Force “ D,’ f asked that 15 class R engines instead of class A engines be sent .
The Director of Railways w 7 as informed of the shipment of 100 wagons and that the balance was ready .
Six months’ estimate of requirements in personnel for the Works Directorate was received from Deputy
Adiutant General, 3rd Echelon, Force “ D ”. , „
Requirements in personnel for Port Administration and Conservancy Directorate were received from
Deputv Adiutant General, 3rd Echelon, Force “D ”.
The Director, Royal Indian Marine, Bombay, reported that the ships of the 1st Convoy lor the 7th
Division were to rendezvous at Maskat on 29th December to'join escort.
