To—The Chief of the General Staff.
Tour 84123 of December 13th. Officers and Indian ranks will be provided
when requirements are known. Regular Officers employed in posts you
mention will be combed out on arrival of business men. Six such can be
placed with Local Resources and six with other departments immediately.
They will be suitably placed and graded according to capabilities and should be
sent as unposted 2nd Lieutenants I.A.R.O., or in rank they hold.

I have reorganised No. 20, British Field Ambulance, and No. 1 Indian
Field Ambulance, as follows:—
A. Section, No. 20, British Field Ambulance, with B. C. D. Sections
No. 1, Indian Field Ambulance, have been formed into No. 1, Combined Field
Ambulance.
B. C. D. Sections of No. 20, British Field Ambulance, are being retained as
separate units.
This will enable me to provide a medical unit for the Russians should it be
necessary.
The reorganisation will have effect from the 1st December.

(Repeated Deputy Adjutant General, 3rd Echelon, Basrah.)
It has hitherto been our endeavour to maintain your Indian Infantry
Battalions up to a strength of 1,200, but owing to urgent calls for units and
reinforcements for other theatres of operations, it has been decided that the
figure shall be 1070, i e, Field Service strength of 980 plus 15 per cent,
reserves. Please direct your D. A. G. 3rd Echelon to indent accordingly.
This will be the basis for demands for all reinforcements whether for fighting
units in Divisions or on the L. of C. or administrative units. You will be
informed, if at any future time, it should be deemed possible, owing to increase
in recruiting to maintain your units at 1,200.
