Euphrates Lines .—It is stated by two Arab officer deserters, ex Ana
September 1st, who arrived Karbala September nth, that there were only 100
mixed soldiers, sailors and Gendarmes at Ana also 400 Shakhtur men. Empty
Shakhturs are now always towed back to Erablus. At Ana depot there are only
83 tons of foodstuff of which 25 tons are barley. 3,000 boxes small arms
ammunition. 5,000 shells i5®centimetre and sorm 7*5 centimetre shell at Anas
They state that official notification was received by Ana from Aleppo about
August 25th that one regiment had left latter place for Euphrates front.. Their
statement appears reliable. From reports received earlier we are expecting one
Infantry Regiment at Hit but nothing to indicate new arrival was seen by
British aircraft reconnaissance which was made there September 10th,
