A deserter who arrived Felujah September 9th deserted at Aleppo August
20th from 1st , Battalion 143rd regiment 24th Division. According to his state
ment the 24th Division left Gallipoli (date not known by him) for Haidar
Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. where company strengths were raised to 200 men by Turkish recruits
and new rifles were issued, Mesopotamian Arabs being drafted out to recruit
depot there Whole division proceeded to Aleppo from Haidar Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. and it is
now thete with one other of unknown titular number. The deserter seems
intelligent and tefis his story well. He heard one of these divisions to go to
Jerusalem the other division half to Mosul and half to Raimadie, but this is only
hearsay. He can give no information of troops on Euphrates which he avoided.

. In Allenbv's plans no modification has been made. Additional artillery is
bemg supplied to him, and one division is en route from Salonica.
It has not yet been decided as to the actual date when operations will
commence. I wanted him, if required, to be ready to move during this month
and he is working to that end 5 but he will not be fully ready this month and is
naturally anxious not to begin until fully ready unless absolutely necessary
Water is his difficulty, which is only to be found in certain places, and conse
quently he needs to succeed completely in each {group corrupt figure omitted)
he attempts otherw : se he has to return to his starting point. It would seem
sufficient if he commenced in first fortnight in October according to present
information. If you have contrary views let me have them, but you must realise
