Concerning your animal situation. Taking into consideration the increase
in Mesopotamia since the submission of your revised demands for 28,500 horses
and 12,815 mules and consequent reduction in numbers available to replace
wastage, are you quite satisfied that your reserve in hand will be sufficient ?
Shipping is being arranged for a total of 12,800 mules as follows:—
8,000 from South America.
4,000 from China.
800 from North America.
As regards horses, the 26,500 from Australia, with the 2,000 you expect
to get locally, makes up the 28,500 asked for. Peacocke estimated he could
buy 23,500 horses; is it possible to obtain the extra 3,000 from New Zealand
and Australia ?
