Summary of events.
The General Officer Commanding, Force " D,” Baghdad, reported the situation unchanged and quiet on
all fronts.
The General Officer Commanding, Force u D,” Baghdad, stated that as regards oil fields there were no
new developments, and until such arose measures of defence hitherto in force were sufficient
A report regarding movements and locations of certain Turkish divisions was received from the Director,
Military Intelligence, London.
A report on the military value of the Anglo-Indian Artillery and Infantry units was received from the
General Officer Commanding, Force “ D,” Baghdad.
The General Staff, South Persian Rifles, stated that 1,000 rifle grenades were required for minor operations
in Persia, and asked if they could he obtained from Basrah to avoid delay.
The General Officer Commanding, Force “ D,” Baghdad, asked for instructions ss to whether Monsieur
Roux was to be permitted to come to Baghdad, and also whether he should be allowed to use a cipher
and a locked postal bag.
Statement of the distribution of tro ps on the 29th July 1917 was received from the General Officer
Commanding, Force “ D,” Baghdad.
Thei General Officer Commanding, Force “ D,” Baghdad, was asked if he had any other evidence regard
ing the arrival of the 50th Division in Mesopotamia.
The Secretary, War Office, London, stated that the three kb" howitzer batteries for Mesopotamia would
each have four guns, and asked if the 3 S. A. A. sections could be provided by India.
A report, stating that 50 aeroplanes had been despatched t o Mesopotamia, and that large numbers of
motor lorries were being sent every day to that port, was received from the Director, Military
Intelligence, London. #
A report that Falkenhayn wished to postpone the Mesopotamia Expedition until the Taurus and Amanus
tunnels W'ere completed and railway had reached Mosul and had issued instructions that all work was
to be completed by October and that troops of the Central Powers would participate in that Expedi
tion was received from the Director, Military Intelligence, London.
