to inform you that the bovemment of India have been instructed

It is noticed that in his telegrm X 7968 of the 15th
w -uly, the General •. ffleer commander in Chief, Baghdad, refers
to the possibility of evacuntinfjthe osul ilt&et in the event
of the political situation deteriorating further. krJimtagu
does not offer my opinion on the Military Measures that may
be necessary to deni with the Military situation; but he desires
to draw attention to the disastrous effect which withdrawal
from Mosul may be expected to have on the political situation
in the rest of Mseonotsttia and to the probability that the
local difficulties would be increased out of oil rrooortion

Part 10 is missing. Part 7, entitled ‘Mesopotamia: Sir A. Wilson’s invitation to Syrian Baghdadis’, was transferred to File 5268/20 Parts 1 and 2 (see IOR/L/PS/10/913).
