desirable in view of large areas instead of the usual one. With regard to your
88298 of 28th October, I have proposed Ainslie and senior civilian as deputy
and to promote. Townsend and Hunter, B.E., assistant deputies and to get two
more good civilians from you. Must be completed with 4 assistants and take
two ot the 3 umor men to replace Hunter and Townsend. Merin or Pearson
would apparently be good second deputy ; concur as regards rank with your
proposals but General Basrah’s reply to your 88298 may be in different sense.
Headquarters are now up the river-
