The item consists of a letter from William Richard Hamilton, Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign Office, to Benjamin Jones, Assistant Secretary at the Board of Control Formally known as the Board of Commissioners for the Affairs of India, it was established by an Act of Parliament in 1784 to supervise the activities of the East India Company. . The letter is a request that any books of correspondence relating to diplomatic missions to Persia [Iran] be sent to the Foreign Office for the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Lord Wellesley’s [Richard Colley Wellesley, 1st Marquess Wellesley] perusal. The letter suggests where the books may be located.
