18. The duplicate Cable submerged between Jashk and
Bushire on the 6th November 1869 has been constantly
employed in conveying messages to and from those Stations,
and has caused a much higher rate of transmibsion over that
section of the Line.
19. Durum 1869-70 communication by the Turkish
line between Fao and Constantinople was
Appendix J. reported interrupted for a total period
of 111 days, and the Persian Line from Bushire to Tabreez
for 229 days. crfesau
20. The principal cause of the prolonged interruption leiiorso’
of the Turkish Lines arose from political disturbances in Asia
Minor, which suspended communication for 95 days during gjstemtM
the months of September, October, November, and December *5®
last; but, with this exception, the working of that Line shows
an improvement in comparison with the previous yeai.
21. 946 messages were transmitted on the service of
Government during the past year.
22. 289 complaints of delay and errors committed in
transmission were received through the various Administrations
from the senders of messages.
28. 212 originated in India and 77 in Europe, 172 were
referred to Persia, 77 to India, and 40 to Turkey.
24. These complaints were fully investigated in this
Office, and afterwards forwarded to the Telegraph Departments
concerned, and only in seven cases had this Department to
participate in reimbursement of the charges in consequence of
irregularities occurring on this Line.
25. The larger number of complaints which were refer
able to the Persian Department occurred in the months oi
October, November, and December last, when the whole of
the traffic followed that route.
26. The interchange of messages with the adjoining
Administrations has been made correctly and with despatch.
