TRAFFIC MANAGER’S REPORT.
Sir,— I Pave the honour to submit the Annual Report of
Traffic transmitted through this Section of the Indo-European
Telegraph Department during the year ending 31st March
1870.
2. Brief reference will be made to such facts as are con-
sidered of sufficient interest and importance to be brought
specially to your notice, the more detailed information being
embodied in the several statistical Statements annexed hereto.
3. During the year under review, the total number of
messages transmitted and the gross and

net revenue realized was as lollows:—

Producing an average of 3,866 messages, and a net revenue
of Rs. 63,525 per mensem.
4. From a comparison between the traffic forwarded
during 1868-69 and the present year, it will be found that the
number of messages transmitted was 10,897 more, and the
net revenue Rs. 1,82,480-15-0 less, than that of the preceding
year.
5. This increase in the number of messages is attribut*
able to the reduced tariff which took effect from January
1869; to a further reduction consequent upon the introduction
of messages at ^ rates, or 10 words, from January 1870; and
to the improved state of communication, since the opening ol
