“ Tlie method adopted of calculating manufactory profit
in the year under report is somewhat different from that
of former years, the outstandings due to and by the jail being
differently treated.
“ The estimated profit of the calendar year 1869 is
Bs. 35,788-1 1-0, against Rs. 59,171-8-8 of the year 1868-69,
showing a decrease of Rs. 23,382-13-8. A great part of this
apparent decrease is due to the present system of calculation,
based on the new statements issued by the Government of
India.
“ Judging by the amounts drawn and paid into the
Treasury, the operations have not been so extensive in this as
in the former year.
Education.
“ Schools haye been established in all the jails, and
are chiefly taught by convict teach
ers, there being only paid teachers
in the jails of Dohud, Rutnagherry, and Dhoolia. The jail
schools are open to the inspection of the Educational
Department.
