Your telegram (Dy. No. 49974), dat-;d 20th April. Action has been taken
to expedite despatch of last-pay certificates of men referred to but Field
Controller, Poona, reports that last-pay certificates of Officers of 13th Division
have in many cases not yet been received and that until lately he has still
been receiving from Army Fay Department in France large batches of acquit
tance rolls relating to year 1914. Consequently last-pay certificates cannot
he issued by onr Military Accounts Department in all eases. We should be
glad if you would kindly cause transmission of all documents still outstanding
relating to units transferred to Mesopotamia to be expedited,

As the situation regarding the Turkish dispositions, which apparently is
somewhat peculiar, is not sufficiently known by me, I do not consider that I can
supplement anything of use to that contained in my telegram No. 15995
No. 51399), datedApril 30th, namely, that as long as heavy losses are not
incurred Lake should be ready to take advantage of any weakness on the part
of the enemy on his front,

  • The construction of railways, including the Qurneh-Amarah [al-Qurnah to al-Kut] Railway

  • Awards and medals given to British and Russian soldiers
  • Outbreaks of cholera and distribution of a cholera vaccine
  • Complaints of shortcomings in accounting leading to delays in soldiers being paid.
