Clear the Line. —Please refer to paragraph one of my telegram No 129-
437-0., dated 20th May {By. No. 55113).
In consideration of the daring nature of this performance and to lend
prominence to this the first personal link between Brussian and British
forces in Mesopotamia I have conferred the Military Cross on the Officer
Commanding the Eussian Cavalry patrol in virtue of the authority delegated
to me by His Majesty the King. It is trusted that approval will he given to
my action.

send such telegrams, but as cable to Mr. Chamberlain from Captain Herbert
was sent with the permission of and after being submitted to the authorities
in India no steps can be taken against him. The question of the general
status of M. Ps. with troops in the field is under consideration and you will be
informed as to the decision arrived at.
