be informed, not later than the 1st July 1916, of the new kinds of articles
which are likely to be required by your force during the approaching cold
weather ; the probable scales of issues of these new articles may kindly be
mentioned, as also any intended important variations in the scales of issue of

2. The articles of which the probable need requires special consideration
are those which have to he imported from oversea, or else have to he manufac

from England stocks of preserved food supplies, medical comforts and manu
factured articles also the fact should be remembered that of many articles the
manufacturing resources of India itself are limited.
3 In regard to this matter, I would invite your attention to niy letter
No. 21399-161 (Q. M. G.-6) (Dy. No. 33504) of 4th January 1916, m which I
asked that your summer requirements in food supplies might he considered; if
some of the alterations in scale recently suggested by you had been decided on
shortly after the receipt of that letter, the stocks on hand of those ration articles
of which you desire to increase the scales of issue would, at the present tune,
have been larger, and consequently have admitted, with safety, of issues on the
increased scales.
