Your 4716-F. (Dy. No, 54039) and 184-185-0- (Dy. No. 54382).
All requirements in future will be found by Royal Flying Corps. The
UNAS, detachment is being withdrawn. W r e can only spare 1 squadron of
following strength 20 pilots including flight commanders, 3 steel Henri
Farmans 3 Martinsydes and 12 Betucis. These are on the way to you now
2 Maurice Farmans and 7 Betucis. We are sending at the end of May 3
Martinsydes and 4 steel Henri Farmans.l
Three pilots are waiting now in England to embark, 4 are on the way v
from England and also two from Egypt. We are selecting 3 pilots tor Martin
sydes. An establishment of 20 pilots including flight commanders will he
maintained, i e., 3 Martinsydes, 3 Henri Earmans and 12 Letucis, for No. 0
Squadron. No more can at present he spared. As soon as possible we will
provide a reserve of aeroplanes.
Owino- to defects in structure the despatch of Martinsydes has been
unavoidably delayed. As regards armament, all requirements of Lewis guns
can be met by Egypt. As regards anti-aircraft gun and mounting referred to
in your 184-185-0 (Dy. No. 54382), paragraph 5, we have no pattern suitable
for use from barges.
A 13-pr. gun on a motor lorry is the only mobile type we have suitable
only for good roade and weighing on wheels 6^ tons W e have few of these
and those at onr disposal are required elsewhere. In the near future some of
this type will be available. Ho you wish to be provided with them .

  • Movements of Russian troops under General Baratoff [Nikolai Nikolaevich Baratov], including the occupation of Kasr-i-Shirin [Qasr-e Shirin] and action at Hamrala
  • The construction of railways, including the Qurneh-Amarah [al-Qurnah to al-Kut] Railway
  • The provision of river craft
  • Awards and medals given to British and Russian soldiers
  • Outbreaks of cholera and distribution of a cholera vaccine
  • Complaints of shortcomings in accounting leading to delays in soldiers being paid.
