This item consists of copies of correspondence, memoranda, minutes, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. . It is the third in a series of three items on the wreck of the Mary Florence .

The item concerns the wreck of the Mary Florence off Cape Guardafui [Ras Asir] on 3 June 1850. The item contains a report by Cruttenden on information he received about the wreck and the fate of the shipwrecked sailors when he visited Allooleh [Caluula] and Bunder Murayah [Bandar Murcanyo].

The item also contains a deposition from James Newton, who, along with other crew members, was stranded at Cape Guardafui when the rope when the line connecting the wreck to the shore was cut, and was taken to Allooleh and from there reached Aden.

The item contains a contents page and the title page of the item contains the following references: ‘Draft No 91 of 1851’ and ‘Coll[ection] 10’.
