JSTo. S.-16040) of 24th—26th July 1915, to the General Officer Commanding’
Indian Expeditionary Eorce “ D.’*
The figures quoted by the Director-General of Ordnance in India showing
the quantities of ammunition sent to, and the amount expended by this Eorce
up to the 18th July 1915, are correct, with the following exceptions :—
Q. F. 18-p". —Director-General of Ordnance shows 18,000 rounds with the
Eorce. The actual amount received was 14,472. The difference of 3,528 was
due to the Divisional Ammunition Column only bringing 1,368 rounds with
them from India instead of 4,896, their authorized proportion.
JB. L. 10-pr .—The Director-General of Ordnance shows 12,000 rounds with
the Force—12,001 were actually received; 3,240 rounds despatched in Novem
ber 1914; 4,320 were actually received. 5,200 rounds despatched in February
1915, 5,214 were actually received, making a difference of 1,095 rounds more
received than shown by the Director-General of Ordnance.

under reference is noted for future guidance.

I have the honour to forward herewith the manuscript of additional entries
for the publication entitled (i Who’s Who in Mesopotamia ” which was recently
printed in Simla.
I should be greatly obliged if you will kindly undertake the printing of
these additions, providing the state of the work in the Simla Press permits of
this being done, and favour me with 400 fair copies in due course.
If there is no objection it is suggested that Major C. C. Murphy be asked
kindly to supervise the editing and printing of this matter.
The additions should be printed on thin paper, if possible, and also on one
side of paper only.

  • A ‘Brief report on the possibilities of the Development of Irrigation in the Basrah District’ by Lieutenant P A Stoddard, Indian Army Reserve Officer (Special Irrigation Officer), (ff 64-71), which is accompanied by comments from Cox and Brigadier-General Joseph Cameron Rimington, Royal Engineers
  • Copies of correspondence between Edmund George Barrow, Military Secretary, India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. , and Bertram Blakiston Cubitt, Under-Secretary of State for India, on the subject of aviation units for service in India and Mesopotamia, which include tables of personnel and vehicles required (ff 91-96)
  • The Quartermaster General’s Embarkation Statement, listing reinforcements and details for Force D which embarked at Bombay [Mumbai] and Karachi (ff 128-134).

The vast majority of material in the volume dates from September 1915, with the exception of a small amount of material which dates from May, June and August 1915.
