. Deputy Director^ of Ordnance Stores, Basrah, stated that only the firot draft of 2,100 men could be equipped
with short rifles, and that no Sirhind tools were available.
It was represented by the Deputy Director of Ordnance Stores, ForceD, SJ that owing to lack of storage it
would be of advantage if explosives demanded could be kept in store at a seaboard arsenal, and
obtained from there as required.
The Deputy Director, Supplies and Transport, reported the approximate ration strength at the end of August.
It was reported by the Deputy Director, Supplies and Transport, that sugar in lieu of goor would be much
appreciated, but that none was required at present.
The Secretary of State was informed that General Nixon was strongly opposed to the proposal to use the
gunboats under construction for towing purposes, and that they were also unsuitable. This view
was endorsed by the Government of India, and it was requested that the river craft ordered from
Home should be sent as soon as possible.
The General Officer Commanding, Force e< D, ” was informed, in answer to an enquiry, that a list of
German parties in Persia was being forwarded to him, and he was also told the composition of the
parties previously referred to.

- The Quartermaster General’s Embarkation Statement, listing reinforcements and details for Force D which embarked at Bombay [Mumbai] and Karachi (ff 128-134).
