To—The Chief of the General Staff.
This telegram is addressed to the Chief of the General Staff and repeated
to Secretary of State for India and the Inspector General of Communications.
Tigris Line. —To-day the Headquarters of the 6th Division reached Abu
Eummanah, 6 miles from Sinn position. A naval reconnaissance was carried
out to-day, and the result points to the position being strongly held by the
Turks. The Howitzer and 63rd Batteries and further supplies are being brought
up by the ships, which have returned to Amarah for that purpose. This will
take about 7 days. To-morrow (16th) a further reconnaissance will be made by
aeroplane. Unfavourable winds have led to bad landings in the case of 2
machines, which have been seriously damaged thereby, but steps are being
taken to replace them from Basrah. Communication between Abu Rummanah
and Amarah has been established by wireless and land line.

required for squadron headquarters 2 flights and repair section. Motor
launches 2 ; tugs 3; lighters large, 100 feet long, 2 ; lighters small, 60 feet
long, 2. Requirement for seaplane flight will follow. . Launches not to draw
more than 2 feet 6 inches. Tugs not more than 3 feet, lighters 2 feet.

S.-21180. Only intimation about hospital ship received through S. M. T.O.
and answer was returned through the same channel. Two hospital ships
required monthly at regular interval of 14th days. Hospital ships are being
fully utilised. Please send next hospital ship 14 days after “Loyalty” leaves
the Bar and as monsoon will be over a ship capable of crossing Bar and anchor
ing off Basrah should be sent.
